Renowned Nollywood veteran, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has expressed a strong opinion regarding the direction of the Nigerian movie industry, commonly known as Nollywood. The acclaimed actor emphasized that Nollywood should be a platform dedicated to creativity and honing talents, rather than a ground for certain practices he finds inappropriate.
In a recent interview with Afia TV, Kanayo O. Kanayo clearly stated his concerns. He urged that Nollywood should not become a hub for practices like Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), corporate sex work, or promoting LGBTQ+ activities. Instead, it should primarily focus on promoting creativity and nurturing genuine talent.
He voiced his thoughts on how the industry should not be a place for amateurs seeking shortcuts but rather a space where individuals can cultivate and showcase their artistic skills. Kanayo believes that prospective entrants should assess if they have a true calling for acting and not just be lured by misconceptions or for the wrong reasons.
Kanayo O. Kanayo underscored the necessity of a fundamental understanding of the craft before engaging in the industry. He encouraged individuals to perceive acting as a vocation, emphasizing the importance of some form of education to be a part of the Nollywood landscape.
Addressing the growing trend of individuals using personal assets like cars to land roles, he cautioned against joining the industry for superficial reasons. Kanayo stressed that aspiring actors should focus on genuine passion and dedication, and not be enticed by fleeting fame.
