Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the rape, killing, and secret burial of job seeker, Iniobong Umoren.
The Philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo was allegedly raped and killed by one Uduak Akpan, who lured her to his home with the promise of helping her to secure employment.
Spokesman of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Odiko MacDon said on Sunday that Akpan was in the command’s custody and had confessed to killing Umoren.
Using the hashtag #JusticeForHinyUmoren, Nigerians have called on the police to diligently prosecute the accused.
Reacting to the tragic incident on Twitter, Atiku prayed that the victim’s family would find the fortitude to bear the loss.
The 2019 presidential candidate of the PDP appreciated Nigerians for uniting to demand justice for the slain job seeker.
“Over the past two days, I saw how Iniubong Umoren united Nigerians in a way that was admirable, yet, tragic. This is heart-rending.
“May God grant her family and friends the fortitude to bear the loss of such a young Nigerian who only sought an honest living,” Atiku wrote.
