Tesla Founder, Elon Musk disclosed Wednesday the company has started accepting Bitcoin as payment for its cars.
Musk stated this in a tweet, which marks the second time this year that the company is audaciously backing the world’s biggest cryptocurrency.
Recall that Musk had earlier in the year announced the company’s $1.5 billion investment in Bitcoin, which further boosted investors’ confidence in the digital currency.
“You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin,” he wrote.
However, the option to buy with Bitcoin is only available to US customers for now.
Musk added that the option for buying Tesla with Bitcoin would be available for customers outside the United States later in the year.
“Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly.
“Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency.
“Pay by Bitcoin capability available outside US later this year,” he stated.
