Just In: Police arrest, detain Reps member, Shina Peller in Lagos

3 Min Read

The police in Lagos State have arrested and detained a member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, at the Moroko Police Station.

The Herald gathered that Peller was at Moroko police station to bail some of Club Quilox’s customers who had allegedly parked on the road during a show at the Club.

In a statement released by Hon. Peller’s Press Secretary, Mr. Kola Popoola, the arrest and detention of the lawmaker was described as absurd, irresponsible and uncalled for.

Popoola, however, called on the police authorities to immediately prevail on officers of Maroko Police station, to release the lawmaker without delay.

The statement read: “Prior to the kickoff of the 36 hours non-stop show which usually holds every year at Quilox, Hon. Peller had informed the concerned Lagos traffic authorities to avoid unnecessary traffic gridlock.

“On getting to Moroko police station, the police started harassing Hon. Peller and even went as far as seizing all his phones for no reason.

“The continuous harassment and unjust detain of a member of House of Representatives, Hon. Peller, by the police calls for urgent attention of the media, and the Inspector General of Police.”

Earlier, The Herald reported that the INEC on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Mr Oluwashinaayomi Peller, the winner of  the Iseyin/ Itesiwaju/ Iwajowa and Kajola Federal Constituency seat in Oyo State.

INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, who declared the result,  said Peller polled a total of 44,088 votes to beat PDP’s Najeemdeen Oyedeji ,who polled 31,336.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate and federal lawmaker,  Olasupo Abiodun, who was elected in 2015 on the platform of  the APC,  came third in the contest with 12,309 votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was wild jubilation at  the collation centre after the  returning officer announced Peller as the winner.
NAN also reports that Peller is the son of  the late popular magician, Prof.  Peller.
