JUST IN: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Sworn In As Kogi Central Senator

Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senator-elect for Kogi Central Senatorial District, has been sworn in as a member of the 10th Senate following her presentation with a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Natasha was administered the oath by the Clerk of the Senate at exactly 11:41am.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becomes the first female Senator from Kogi State.

Her victory comes after a legal battle with her opponent, Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja nullified Ohere’s victory and declared Akpoti-Uduaghan the winner of the February senatorial poll. The Tribunal had declared, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the PDP candidate, as the authentic Senator of Kogi Central with lawful votes of 54,354. Ohere of APC scored 51,291 votes.

Ohere appealed the ruling, but the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal on Tuesday, upholding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory.
