JUST IN: Labour Party, ADP Win Senate, Reps Rerun Elections In Plateau

Daniel Asama of the Labour Party (LP) has won the House of Representatives rerun election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), by a margin of 4,752 votes.

Professor James Garba, the Returning Officer, officially declared Asama the winner on Monday morning, following last Saturday’s tightly contested election. Asama garnered a total of 66,422 votes.

Meanwhile, in the Plateau North senatorial rerun election, Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) defeated Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Professor Nestor Chagok, the Returning Officer, announced the results in the early hours of Monday, revealing that Dachungyang secured 122,442 votes compared to Safiu’s 53,980 votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Musa Giwa, finished third with 39,132 votes, while Gyang Zi of the LP trailed with 33,243 votes.

The elections follow a Court of Appeal ruling late last year that nullified the victories of PDP candidates Musa Agah (House of Representatives) and Senator Simon Mwadkon (Senate) and mandated rerun elections within 90 days. The PDP was also excluded from the ballot in both contests based on the court’s judgment.
