Nigerian-born New Zealand-based mixed martial artist, Israel Adesanya (20-1) on Sunday morning lost to Jan Błachowicz by unanimous decision in UFC 259.
Before the clash, Blachowicz (28-8) held the light heavyweight title which he retained after defeating the previously undefeated middleweight champion.
The judges scored 49-46, 49-45 and 49-45 in favor of the 38-year-old Polish champion at the UFC Apex in Nevada.
The defeat meant Blachowicz stopped Adesanya’s bid to hold two championship belts simultaneously.
The co-main event saw Amanda Nunes (21-4) easily defeat Megan Anderson (11-5) to retain her featherweight crown.
Also, Aljamain Sterling (20-3) won the bantamweight title after Petr Yan (15-2) lost by disqualification.
