The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s decision to freeze the accounts of 19 individuals and a company linked to the #EndSARS protests has received legal backing.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, November 5 granted the apex bank’s application for an order authorising it to direct commercial banks to place “Post No Debit” (PNB) order on the accounts.
The CBN had filed the application on October 20, nearly two weeks after the commencement of the nationwide protests.
Recall that Nigerian youths trooped out from October 8 to 23 to demand an end to police brutality.
However, the peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums, who looted and set ablaze many private properties and public institutions.
