Two military officers have been killed and another kidnapped when bandits invaded the permanent site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Afaka, Kaduna State, The Herald can report.
It was gathered that the incident occurred early Tuesday when bandits in large numbers stormed the military training institution.
The NDA permanent site in Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area was officially opened in February 2007. The old site in Angwan Kanawa in Kaduna town is now for Postgraduate and short service cadets.
According to witnesses, the bandits that were inside a vehicle entered the academy’s gate dressed in military uniforms and proceeded to the officers’ quarters.
The bandits were said to have opened fire upon reaching the quarters, killing the two yet-to-be-identified officers (a Major and a Squadron Leader), kidnapping one other and injuring many more.

The injured persons were said to be receiving treatment at the NDA hospital.
However, the volley of gunshots attracted the attention of the NDA Quick Response Team, which arrived the scene shortly after but could not rescue the kidnapped officer.
Although military authorities have yet to confirm the incident, The Herald learnt that a joint security team assisted by air surveillance has launched a manhunt for the assailants with a view to arresting them and rescuing the kidnapped officer.
There were recent intelligence reports that Boko Haram flags were sighted at the Afaka Forest close to NDA and Kaduna Airport.
