The kidnappers of the twins of popular Ibadan-based Islamic cleric, Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold, have freed them.
Their father disclosed this in a Sunday morning post on Facebook.
According to him, they were released at 5:30 am today.
Akewugbagold disclosed that they were left beside a bush eight days after their abduction.
He appreciated Nigerians for their support and prayers throughout his family’s trying time.
“ALHAMDULILLAH! AT 5.30 AM OF SUNDAY 3RD MAY, MY ABDUCTED TWIN KIDS ARE RELEASED TO ME BESIDE A BUSH AFTER 8DAYS IN AN UNKNOWN LAND. THANKS TO U ALL FOR FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT, JAZAKUMULLAHU KHAIRAN. ABERE MI BO SINU OKUN, OLOUN YO PADA FUN MI.”

The Herald reports that the twins were whisked away from their parents’ home in the Ojoo area of Ibadan at 8:30 pm on Saturday, April 25.
The abductors demanded £100, 000 (app. N48 million) ransom for the release of the two-year-old twins.
Speaking earlier about the incident, Akewugbagold said, “We have been contacted and we have been exchanging conversations with the abductors. We are begging them on a daily basis to reduce the ransom. They have asked for £100, 000 which is N55 million. Since then we have been begging them and I believe they will consider our plea.
“The abductors speak good English meaning they are graduates. They were first harsh but later very friendly. It is very unfortunate. I am appealing to the government to wake up to their duty. If things continue like this, only God knows what will happen.”
