Ace Nollywood actress, Ini Edo has said all producers in the Nigerian film industry are guilty of negligence.
She said this in a Facebook post on Thursday following the death of fellow actor, Junior Pope and three other crew members.
Junior Pope and his colleagues reportedly drowned on Wednesday when their boat capsized on Anam River, Anambra State, while returning from a filming location on the River Niger.
Following the incident, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) suspended all film productions in riverine areas and boat rides.
The actors guild also barred actors from participating in any film produced by Adanma Luke until further notice.
Luke is the producer of the movie titled “The other side of life,” in which Junior Pope was starring before his death.
Reacting to the incident, Ini Edo said Junior Pope did not have to sacrifice his life before regulatory structures were put in place in Nollywood.
She wrote, “Jnr Pope did not have to sacrifice his life for nollywood to realize the need for a long and much needed regulatory structure that would safeguard an entire production . Yes .. every one is a producer now and all are guilty of negligence of some sort.. and this has to stop. This is one sacrifice too many and must count for something … The system has to undergo a total overhaul with practical rules and regulations that caters to everyone in cases of emergencies…. I will never understand why the good ones go so soon🤦🏻♀️💔
Rest on brother … This one cuts really deep 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔”
