A corporal attached to the Nigerian Army identified as Peter Omobuwa, shocked everyone when he opened fire on his commanding officer, I.F. Ibiama in Borno state.

According to The Cable,  the officer suffered bullet wounds and was taken the 21 Brigade Medical Center, while the soldier was detained.

According to their source, “A junior officer with service number N/12897 open fired at the senior officer with service number 02NA/52/2588. The junior officer was disarmed and stabilised our detention facility,”

The term ‘fragging’ is what is used to describe the act of shooting a fellow officer, usually a superior one.

An incident of this nature happened in 2014 when some soldiers, angered by the loss of some of their colleagues in a Boko Haram ambush, opened fire on the vehicle of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed.

The four soldiers involved in that incident were sentenced to death after a court-martial.
