A journalist has reportedly been stabbed by hoodlums in Lagos during a mass protest against the mass sack of bankers and the ban placed by the Lagos state government on hawking.
According to reports, the stabbed journalist who works with news agency, The Punch, has been identified as Sodiq Adelakun.
Online news medium, Naij reported that the hoodlums attacked members of civil societies along with the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC who were protesting in front of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA building located in Alausa, Lagos.
The hoodlums who were reported to be about fifty in number were armed with dangerous weapons which resulted in pandemonium as protesters scuttled for safety.
The hoodlums however laid hands and beat some protesters including the photojournalist with dangerous weapons including planks.
Other journalists at the scene were also beaten and their equipment seized by the hoodlums.
An eyewitness said: “The journalists from television stations were also attacked by the hoodlums. Whether they survived the ordeal without having their equipment spoilt is something I cannot ascertain at the moment.”
Naij reports that the health status of the attacked journalists is yet to be known as some have been reported to be responding well to treatment in an undisclosed health facility.
