Jos Tribunal Upholds Former Governor, Jang’s Election As Senator

2 Min Read

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos, on Saturday, upheld the election of Senator Jonah Jang, as the Senator duly elected to represent the People of Plateau North Senatorial District at the 8th National Assembly.

Senator Jonah Jang is the immediate former governor of Jos and was elected as a Senator under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in the April 2015 General Elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate Eunice Ayisa Sambo, had gone to the tribunal to seek justice over alleged irregularities that trailed the conduct of the elections in some local government areas of the district.

Delivering Judgement which lasted for over four hours, the chairman of the National Assembly Election Tribunal, Lanre Akeredolu, said the petitioner failed to prove her case beyond reasonable doubt, stressing that most of the principal witnesses were not electoral officers and party agents at the polling units where irregularities were said to have been committed.

Akeredolu awarded N200,000 against the petitioner in favour of the defendant, Senator Jonah Jang.

Reacting to the judgment, Senator Jang, in a statement, by his Media aide, Chris Gyang, said, “This judgment has gone a long way to further confirm the confidence and trust of the electorate in me and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
