Four people have reportedly been killed in Fang, Bachit District, Riyom Local Government of Plateau State on Monday evening by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The spokesman for the task force, Capt. Salisu Mustapha confirmed the killings of four people by some gunmen. He confirmed that the victims were travelling in a bus when the assailants opened fire on them.
The names of the victims were given by the Executive Director, Mr Mark Lipido as Gyang Pius, Markus Davou, Yohanna Bature and Monday Kimtong. He said there were two others – Samuel Umaru and Keneng Pius – who were receiving treatment at the Vom Christian Hospital.
Anxiety rose at the hospital when some angry youths tried picking up the corpses with the intention of going to protesting the killings at the Government House, Rayfield and the headquarters of the Special Task Force. However, they were repelled by some security men.
Capt. Mustapha called on the residents of the area to be calm as he said investigations were underway to bring the culprits to book.
Lawmaker representing Riyom constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr Daniel Dem, said the four people were shot dead around 5pm in a vehicle en route Fang village in Riyom.
