A prophet, they say, has no honour in his own home. While former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan may not be a prophet, he is much vilified in his own country, Nigeria.
He has been accused of presiding over one of the most corrupt administrations in the history of Nigeria.
A recent statement by former Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano, alleged that $1 billion was always missing every month under the former president’s administration.
However, Diplomatic Circles in Geneva, Switzerland has announced it will be honouring Dr. Jonathan at the group’s annual dinner which comes up on January 21, 2016.
At the event, Jonathan is also expected to deliver a keynote address, Channels TV reports.
Jonathan is being honoured for his commitment to democratic principles which saw him concede defeat to Muhammadu Buhari of the opposition All Progressives Congress during the April 2015 presidential election, something African leaders always find hard to do.
He is also being honoured for “upholding human rights in Africa”.
