Leader of the Odua Peoples Congress, Dr. Frederick Fasheun has said President Goodluck Jonathan must contest for a second term in 2015 in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the country.
“Since there is a provision in the constitution for a second term in office, Jonathan has the right to re-contest and nobody should mount pressure on him to drop the ambition,” he said.
“The militant group in the Niger-Delta may return to the creeks if the President is denied the opportunity in 2015,” he warned.
Fasheun said he was no a close ally of President Jonathan but believed he had done his best for the country and is entitled to a second term by the constitution.
“They did not deny Obasanjo or Shagari why should Jonathan be denied,” he queried.
He said Jonathan should not be made a fall guy for the Boko Haram crisis in the country as the insecurity challenges predated his administration.
