Jonathan Lands Another Appointment In Sierra Leone

1 Min Read

Former President Goodluck Jonathan will be leading observers drawn from civil society organisations and election management bodies from across Africa to observe the Sierra Leone general election scheduled for March 7.

Jonathan will serve as leader of the Election Observation Mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).

His spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, made this known in a Friday statement.

Eze said the ex Nigerian leader left Nigeria for Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown on Friday.

Jonathan gained international acclaim when he conceded the 2015 presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari before the official announcement of results by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

The South Africa-based EISA is a not-for-profit election-focused organisation with field offices across the African continent.

The organisation has observed over 100 election and political processes in Africa.

Eze said his principal “is pleased to be part of the process in support of a peaceful and transparent election in Sierra Leone.”
