Kurt Zouma’s season-ending injury is not expected to have an impact on the future of captain John Terry, but could see Chelsea attempt to bring highly-rated Andreas Christensen back to the club in the summer.
Terry’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season and the 35-year-old has revealed there are currently no talks over a new deal.
Zouma’s injury had already raised questions over whether or not Chelsea will now be forced to offer Terry a contract to make sure they are not caught short for the start of next season, but the Frenchman’s fitness is not likely to have a bearing on the decision.
The absence of Zouma could even be bad news for Terry, as he and Gary Cahill had been exposed at the start of this season and a poor end to the season by the pair will only reaffirm the opinion of some within Stamford Bridge that the former England captain’s best days are behind him.
While Terry has unequivocally got the Chelsea fans on his side, his public comments have not done him any favours with the club’s hierarchy who had wanted negotiations to be conducted in private.
