Nigerian singer Joe El has opened up about the challenges he faced in his music career due to his striking resemblance to legendary musician 2Baba.
In an interview on the “Hoha” podcast, Joe El disclosed that the comparisons to 2Baba led to negative consequences, with some music executives and media personalities denying him access to their platforms.
Joe El cited specific instances, including being barred from performing at Festac Carnival 2013 and having his songs blacklisted by Sound City presenters. A presenter at Cool FM also refused to interview him, accusing him of imitating 2Baba.
However, Joe El’s collaboration with 2Baba on the 2015 song “Hold On” marked a turning point, helping him gain acceptance and recognition in the industry.
Regarding his departure from Kennis Music after 12 years, Joe El clarified that his contract had simply expired.
