2 Min Read

Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the ban placed on motorcycles (okadas) and tricycles (Keke) in Lagos state.

Commuters resort to trekking following Okada Ban by Lagos state government

The PDP governorship aspirant berated Sanwo-olu’s administration for not providing an alternative means of transportation before enforcing the ban.

He noted that in a commercial city as Lagos with an explosive population of over 17 million people, outright ban of okadas and tricycles was not a wise decision as it reeks of utter ignorance.

He noted that while the reasons of the ban may be valid, a lack of alternative means of transportation will have a negative ripple effect on commuters.

Jimi Agbaje who has been quiet on the political scene following his loss at the 2019 gubernatorial poll,  made this known via his verified twitter account.

A Lagos City state for the 21st century needs proper planning. The reasons for the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) and motor tricycles (Keke marwa) by the Lagos State Government are noted. But what about the people?

My view is that such outright ban on major routes will be counterproductive and difficult to enforce. It will also have negative ripple effects on the economy with so many already out of work & cause inconvenience to commuters.

The formal operators that have thus far regulated themselves should be allowed to continue, with stringent regulation & enforcement of traffic laws.
