Jimi Agbaje Campaign member writes Open Letter to LASAA

2 Min Read

Dear LASAA,

During this election period, many candidates and political parties are going to spend a lot of money on advertising. While commercial media agencies are bound to reap a handsome profit, a percentage of this same revenue will eventually end up in your agency’s coffers, generating more revenue for our dear Lagos State. It is therefore surprising that other political parties, apart from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have been unable to find advertising space on billboards; even when those billboards are unused. Well, it is not really surprising anymore. We now have an inkling into the truth.

As the Jimi Agabje Campaign Organisation rightly noted: It is no longer secret that advertising agencies are refusing to display adverts from other political parties because the APC-led government through LASAA has threatened to close down their businesses if they dare do so. Already, outdoor advertisements from other parties have been taken down and the advertising agencies that displayed them have been threatened with reprisals if they repeat same.

This is a blatant display of nepotism, despotism, partiality and lack of political fair play. LASAA CANNOT and SHOULD NOT favour any political party above another. Every political party should be given an equal opportunity to display their communication materials in open and available spaces in OUR state, and LASAA, OUR agency should focus on maintaining quality and fairness, not disenfranchising political platforms because their adverts do not feature brooms.

Is this the change APC is talking about?
