The Jigawa Government has earmarked about N90 million for the conversion of motorised water scheme to solar powered water scheme in the state.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Hanu-Giwa disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.
Hanu-Giwa explained that almost all water scheme in the state were powered by generators, adding that the state government was spending so much money on maintenance.
According to him, with the current economic situation, it is important to save cost hence the decision to convert them to solar powered water schemes for the benefit of the people.
He said that the solar water scheme was efficient, reliable and cost effective.
The commissioner stated that the project would commence in the second quarter of the year.
He added that the project would be executed in all zonal water scheme centres located in Dutse, Kazaure, Hadejia, Gumel and Ringim. (NAN)
