A brace from the Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus gave Man City a much needed win over a renewed Everton side who has coaching veteran Carlo Ancelotti in charge.
It was a dry spell in the first half but goals in the 51st and 58th minutes gave City a two goal advantage and from then on it was going to be an uphill climb for Everton to restore parity let alone win the game.
Richarlison pulled one back for the visitors at the 71st minute turning the Ethiad into a tense environment and fans bingeing on their fingernails with the recent capitulation of their sides 3-2 loss at Wolves still fresh in their minds.
Gabriel Jesus has now scored seven goals in five appearance against Everton.
Pep Guardiola has remarked in his pre-match interview that it was going to be a tough match and that he had the utmost respect for Carlo Ancelotti;
“His side usually beats my sides”
That respect was by no means misplaced as the master tactician made tweaks to his team that got them on the front foot and soon carved out a goal of their own.
City remained 3rd on the log but now stand just one point behind Leicester City and Everton drop to 10th place.
