Jay Z vs. Rita Ora: Roc Nation Countersues Rita Ora for $2.4 Million

2 Min Read

Jay Z’s music label Roc Nation is suing Rita Ora for $2.4 million, according to reports. The label claims that Ora, 25, has not honoured her contract, which she signed in 2008. The British singer was reportedly supposed to deliver five albums but has only made one. (She released her debut album, Ora, in August 2012.) In addition, the label says it spent over $2 million on marketing and developing her second album, which has yet to hit shelves.

“[Roc Nation] has tirelessly promoted [her] career, investing millions of dollars in marketing, recording and other costs, which was instrumental in guiding Ms. Ora to her current level of success and fame,” legal documents state, via Page Six.

Jay Z’s civil suit comes just six weeks after Ora filed her own lawsuit against the label. As previously reported, the Fifty Shades of Grey actress filed a complaint last month alleging that she wasn’t given as much attention after the label began to manage professional athletes.

“As Roc Nation’s interests diversified, there were fewer resources available and the company suffered a revolving door of executives,” her suit read. “Rita’s remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company.”

The ongoing feud of Jay Z, 46, and Ora may soon be over, however. Ora’s attorney, Howard King, said that the two are trying to officially break ties.

“Jay Z has personally and graciously promised Rita complete freedom from Roc Nation, the details of which are now being finalized,” King stated, via Page Six. “We believe that Roc Nation’s distributor, Sony Music, has required Roc Nation to file this action to preserve whatever rights Sony might have pending resolution.”
