Renowned American actress and talk show host, Jada Pinkett Smith, has unveiled a lesser-known chapter of her life, disclosing that the late rapper Tupac Shakur proposed to her during his time in jail, which she ultimately declined.
During a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball podcast, Pinkett Smith opened up about Tupac’s jail proposal, highlighting that the hip-hop legend proposed due to his circumstances at that time. She shared that although Tupac proposed marriage to her, she chose not to accept it because she firmly believed she could support and be there for him without being his wife.
Reflecting on the painful memory, she recalled visiting him at Rikers Island and witnessing his difficult condition during his incarceration. She emphasized that Tupac needed companionship and support during those challenging times, which she was willing to provide even without the official bond of marriage.

Despite referring to Tupac as her “soulmate,” Pinkett Smith emphasized that they were not meant to be married, believing that their relationship would have ended in a divorce if they had gone down that path.
This revelation comes on the heels of another recent disclosure by Pinkett Smith, where she confirmed that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separately since 2016. While they aren’t officially divorced, the couple has been leading separate lives for the past several years, adding a layer of complexity to their long-standing relationship.
