Renowned Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her earlier call for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s body, citing the ensuing controversies and burial delays as reasons for her change of heart.
Speaking during an interview on the Talk to B podcast hosted by Biola Bayo, Ojo explained that her initial advocacy for the exhumation was driven by the need to uncover the cause of Mohbad’s untimely death. However, she revealed that subsequent family disputes have overshadowed her intentions.
“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way,” she lamented. “He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But his dad has conditions again.”
Ojo clarified that her sole intention was to facilitate a proper autopsy to determine the singer’s cause of death. However, she noted that the situation took a different turn when “DNA became more important” to the family.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances and was buried the next day. On September 21, 2023, his body was exhumed by the Lagos State Police for an autopsy as part of an investigation into his death.
The case has since been marred by complications, including Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, insisting on a DNA test to confirm the paternity of the singer’s son, Liam. Despite the court granting his request, burial plans remain stalled due to new conditions reportedly set by Aloba.
