“It’s absurd to say Matawalle is sponsoring armed bandits” – Fani-Kayode

Matawalle and Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode says there is no truth behind the allegation that Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has been sponsoring armed bandits in his state.

He described the allegation as “absurd” in a tweet on Monday.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress had claimed in a statement by its acting spokesman, Yekini Nabena that a state governor in the North-West was sponsoring armed bandits.

The party did not name the governor.

However, Matawalle’s name popped up after it emerged that he was instrumental to the negotiations that resulted in the release of the abducted 344 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State.

The students, some of whom have vowed not to return to school, were kidnapped from their school in Katsina and taken to a forest in Zamfara.

Matawalle has also declared publicly that he would continue to negotiate with bandits if that was what it would take to have peace in the state.

Reacting to the allegation that Matawalle was sponsoring armed bandits in his state, Fani-Kayode wrote, “Terrorism & the slaughter of innocents is reduced by 80% in Zamfara state since @Bellomatawalle1 became Governor & someone claims that he is sponsoring armed bandits in his state?

“This is absurd. If that is what you describe as “sponsoring terror” then let us have more of it.”
