Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, has warned that qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia would be a tough task, but said that the team’s major priorities would be to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
Nigeria will play winners of the World Cup first round match between Djibouti and Swaziland for a place in the group phase after been drawn bye during Saturday’s draws.
However, Oliseh insisted that he was confident the team would take the first hurdle but that the road to Russia would be tough.
“It is going to be very, very difficult, but I believe we can qualify. All we have to do is look at ourselves, try to improve our game and hopefully we will qualify,” Oliseh told FIFA.com during an interview.
“We all have dreams, and I am hoping I will be as successful as I can be. But one has to be realistic also. We have just started, and our first step is to hopefully just win the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania. That is what I am praying for. Game by game.”
Oliseh, who will be assisted by Belgian coach, Jean Francois Losciuto, will begin the task of preparing the Super Eagles for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Tanzania in the first week of September.
