Five soldiers that went missing from Friday’s attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum have been killed by their abductors.
The soldiers were abducted by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) from an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) on the road to Baga, executed and their lifeless bodies dumped in a bush around Cross Kauwa, Vanguard reported, quoting unnamed security sources.
The remains of the slain soldiers were recovered in a search and rescue operation, which was still ongoing, the sources reportedly said.
Meanwhile, the governor’s convoy was attacked again on Sunday, along the Monguno-Maiduguri axis, just as the casualty from the previous attack hit 30.
The Herald gathered that no casualty was recorded in the latest attack which took place around 10:30 pm as the governor’s convoy was returning to the state capital, Maiduguri.
Troops of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) were said to have been mobilised immediately to the scene of the incident and were able to foil the insurgents’ attack.
