Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the shi’ite leader and cleric who was involved in the army clash with the Islamic Movement of Nigeria has been denounced by various muslim leaders before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
The committee of inquiry continued its sitting with testimonies from various individuals. Most of the individuals who were scholars and muslim leaders, described El-Zakzaky’s brand of religion as anti Islamic, noting that his beliefs and teachings go contrary to the dictates of the Quran.
Prof. Garba Bala from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, berated the IMN and its teachings while applauding the Nigerian Army in its efforts at subverting the activities of the IMN. He described the intervention and conduct of the military as timely and professional not only to save the Chief of Army Staff who was marked for assassination but the entire neighborhood who have had to live in perpetual fear of these elements.
Muhammed Balarabe, a cleric from Zaria also criticised the actions of the IMN. He stated that the sect was taking the law into its own hands.
The cleric thus commended the officers and men of the Nigerian Military for their conduct and professional approach during the crisis and while also pledging his organisation’s continued support to the Federal Government.
Coalition of Muslim Ulamas, represented by Engr. Bashir Aliyu also commended the military while condemning the IMN.
Aliyu was of the opinion that the actions of the IMN were evil and were against the teachings of Islam. He tendered into evidence video clips which showed El-Zakzaky and his wife at different meetings with members of their sect speaking against the government and suggesting revolutionary ways of going against the government.
