The Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has named Abdullah Qardash as the new leader of the group, in less than 24hours of the death of the previous leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Abdullah Qardash is a former Iraqi military officer who served under the infamous Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Apart from this, little is known of Qardash as he has often stayed in the background.
The Herald had reported the killing of fugitive Islamic State leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by United States special forces in a raid in northwest Syria which was confirmed by President Donald Trump.
Reports claimed that Trump declared that Baghdadi killed himself by detonating his suicide vest during the operation on Saturday night, October 27.

He stated that the test results on the remains of those killed positively identified Baghdadi, who before now was the world’s most wanted terrorist. The president, who said no American was killed in the operation, lauded the bravery of the men and women of U.S. forces.
The president further explained that Baghdadi’s three children and many other terrorists also died in the raid, adding that the accurate figure of those killed would be released in the next 24 hours.
According to him, “He was a sick and depraved man and now he’s gone. The thug, who tried so hard to intimidate others, spent his last moments in utter fear, panic and dread, terrified of the American forces coming down on him.”
