Terrorist group, Islamic State has released 37 Assyrian Christians it captured back in February, two human rights group announced on Saturday.
The released elders are said to be part of about 200 that were captured from a stretch of villages inhabited by an ancient Christian minority in the city of Hasaka near Syria’s border with Iraq.
According to Reuters, the elders were captured in a fight between Syrian Kurdish YPG forces and Islamic State.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said they were released after negotiations with elders from Arab tribes.
The elders, who were said to be in good health, have since been returned to the town of Tel Tamer, the Assyrian Human Rights Network said.
