The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe has appealed to aggrieved parties, candidates and their supporters not to take the laws into their hands but instead seek redress in courts.
Alhaji Umar Kukuri, the IPAC Chairman in the state, made the call while addressing newsmen on Monday in Damaturu.
“Anyone who has issues with the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), should seek justice in the court as directed by the Electoral Act.
“We are delighted to congratulate all political parties, candidates and their supporters in Yobe for the peaceful and successful conduct of both Presidential and National Assembly elections across the state.
“As we await the official announcement of the election results, we mustcontrol our supporters and warn them against taking laws into their hands to cause mayhem.
“IPAC is pleading with all stakeholders, candidates and their supporters to imbibe the culture of sportsmanship and accept defeat.
“However, where anyone feels like he or she has a case, such person or persons can pursue justice in a competent court of law “ Kukuri advised.
According to the chairman, Yobe has already suffered so much and cannot afford to accommodate more crises.
“We should promote peaceful coexistence, respect for each other, and remain law -abiding,” he added.
The chairman also urged the people to prepare for the Governorship and State Assembly elections.
“I am using this medium to plead with members of various political parties to turn out en-mass to elect leaders of their choice, leaders who will bring development,” he pleaded. (NAN)
