An Ondo state governorship aspirant for the Nov. 26 poll, Mr Bukola Adetula, on Tuesday said investors were still interested in Nigeria in spite of Nigeria’s seeming bad image abroad.
Adetula said this while fielding questions from newsmen after picking his expression of interest and nomination forms at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja.
He said that investors would go to Ondo state but that the state government and the people would have to think more of business and development and less of politics.
Adetula said that his years abroad as a political scientist and criminal lawyer, defending some Nigerians involved in criminal cases, had exposed him to many people.
”Enough of running Ondo as a political entity; it should now be run as a business entity.
”We have to look for alternative ways to generate income within our people and that is why those connections, contacts garnered over the years from all over the World, will now have to come to play.
”In spite of the image Nigeria has abroad, a ton of companies are willing to come into Nigeria; a lot are willing to come to Ondo.
”They are now beginning to talk to us, willing to come in and invest and bring in industries. We’ll put in place a solid developmental plan that after four years, another government can build upon.”
He said that he brought ceramic, glass, fertilizer and cement companies into the state and it was painful to see investors walk away from the state.
The aspirant commended President Muhammadu Buhari for courageously prosecuting corruption and said that he will not stand against it.
On tedious and prolonged court cases, he said, ”I can relate but I tell you that soon it will be quicker and faster and convictions will begin to come.
”It will take a number of years to restore sanity in the system but the president must be commended.” (NAN)
