Mr Godwin Tuma, Managing Director, Miloni and Sons Enterprises has petitioned Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom over an alleged demolishing of his filling station.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the station was demolished on Aug. 22, in Eket Local Government Area of the state.
The petitioner, owner of the filling station located on Eket-Etinan Road, Ikot Okudomo Okon-Eket, demanded for justice, claiming that it was done out of malice and political vendetta.
.
The petition was channeled through the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom.
The petition, which emanated from Onyeama Onyeama and Associate Law firm, alleged that the demolition was carried out with impunity and out of malice.
According to him, the property is duly permitted for business from relevant government agencies, including Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and Town Planning Authority.
“Approval was given by DPR vide DPR/08/2016/AKS/24 and Town planning approval number 03/ AK/3/ 2013/ 07.
“Without any form of warning, the ministry of works under the command and supervision of the Commissioner for works, went into the filling stationy and bulldozed the entire concreted surface.
“And destroyed the kerosene stand and the roofed canopy,’’ the petition stated.
Tuma alleged that there were other filling stations situated along the same road within the same circumference but were not destroyed.
“For Miloni and Sons Enterprises Ltd to be singled out for such a hatchet job by the Commissioner is to our mind, antithetical to the Akwa Ibom Governor’s call for investors to come to the state,” the petition read.
The Law firm demanded, on behalf of Mr Tuma, for N20 million as damages caused the investor.
The petition called on Gov. Emmanuel to intervene in the matter as such action was not in the best interest of the state.
Responding, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Iyang, said the demolished structure was on the right of way in the ongoing Eket-Etinan Road construction.
“Even if the man builds it 10 times, I will destroy it 10 times; he should go to court,’’ Inyang said.
