Insiders Behind Ogun Finance Director’s Killing – Police

2 Min Read

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, alleges that those behind the murder of the Director of Finance in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s office, Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi, are in-house.

According to him, the robbery and the eventual murder of Oyekanmi were premeditated.

The Commissioner further noted that the gunmen were properly informed by an insider that the late Finance Director went to the bank.

He wondering how the armed robbers, fully equipped with a sledgehammer, knew they would need it to break into the bullion van.

He said, “From the information we have, it is obvious that it was premeditated. It was an in-house (thing). We have this feeling because, how did they know that they would need a hammer to break the receptacle?”

Alamutu also alleged that the robbers must have been lurking around the bank area, waiting for the deceased to make the withdrawal so they could attack the bullion van.

The Commissioner stated that the police are working with the information they have on ground to ensure that the perpetrators of this inhumane act are brought to book.

The Herald reports that the late Oyekanmi, on Wednesday afternoon, went to Fidelity Bank in Oke-Ilewo to withdraw a cash sum of N97.335m and N15m from Sterling Bank, also in the Oke-Ilewo Area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

On his way from the banks, armed robbers attacked the bullion van and shot Oyekanmi dead.

Oyekanmi, reportedly gunned down on top of NNPC Bridge, was rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead.

Aside from Oyekanmi, the two other persons in the bullion van survived the robbery attack unhurt.
