Insecurity: You must resign – House Of Reps tells Service Chiefs

2 Min Read

The House of Representatives has asked Nigeria service chiefs to resign over the insecurity challenges in the country.

The Herald gathered that the lower chamber disclosed this during plenary on Wednesday, January 29.

Rep. Mohammed Monguno who represents Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno state said that the attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East zone have lingered for more than seven years.

Monguno said that the feat achieved by the Nigerian Armed Forces had led to increased economic activities within the North-East zone.

He, however, said, “Recently, the Boko Haram insurgents who were relegated to the background are now unleashing terror in Borno and Yobe states.

“The insurgents have forced the Nigerian Military to close traffic on the Damaturu-Maiduguri road for some days; the Damaturu-Maiduguri road is the only access from Maiduguri to other parts of Nigeria.

“The closure of the road is an indication that the Boko Haram insurgents have seized the road and attacked communities on that axis.”

Also, Abubakar Fulata, had informed the House that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness. He argued that it is not right to keep the service chiefs who have failed to deliver and expect them to do something different in the long run.

After this, Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House put the question to the lawmakers whether the service chiefs should resign and leave their offices. Despite dissent, the majority of the House member backed the call for the service chiefs to resign.
