Insecurity in the North: Stop expressing shock, take action – Sultan of Sokoto’s JNI tells Buhari

Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto-led Jama’tul Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the Federal Government to take decisive action to end insecurity in the country, especially in the north.

The leading Islamic organisation said that mere condemnations and warnings that have become the government’s refrain after every killing would not bring peace to the nation.

According to a Wednesday statement signed by Secretary-General of the JNI, Dr. Khalid Aliyu in Kaduna, only decisive action against the perpetrators would bring an end to insecurity and promote peace and security in the country.

“Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) under the leadership of His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and JNI’s President-General, is in utter shockwave over the unfortunate repeated incidences of loss of precious lives and wanton destruction of property arising from well-coordinated attacks of armed bandits, Boko Haram terrorist groups and rapists.

“We implore government to take all genuine calls, concerns so raised and recommendations proffered so far, even from perceived and/or alleged antagonists in good fate, in order to move the country on the path of glory – human security, as development in whatever guise, is utterly incomplete without security,” Aliyu’s statement read in part.

The organisation said it had noted with regret, that the killings, especially in the Northwest and some parts of Northcentral, were an extension of Boko Haram insurgency.

Furthermore, the JNI said it was beginning to align with rumours that security operatives do not want the insurgency and banditry to end because of pecuniary gains.

In the statement, the Islamic organisation said that the repeated killings and banditry would have been avoided if the government had risen to the occasion.

It decried as unfortunate when those in authority remained in their comfort zones as their subjects were being subjected to arson and killings by bandits who take advantage of the government’s inaction.

The Islamic organisation said it was surprised that the repeated massacre, arson and rustling of cattle in Borno, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Adamawa, Kaduna and Taraba states were not giving governments and its functionaries sleepless nights.
