INEC to Conduct Voter Registration During Weekends

As part of preparations for the forthcoming 2019 General Elections, the Independent Electoral Commission has announced it’s decision to commence voters registrations exercise during weekends.

The commission who announced this on Wednesday said that the weekend exercise would begin on August, 1, 2018 across the country.

According to report signed by Mallam Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner and Member, Information & Voter Education Committee, the exercise will take place between 9am and 5pm rather than the normal 9am-3pm as it is currently done.

In his words: registrations will be going on every Saturdays and Sundays, including public holidays.

‘’The exercise will have to close for the year by 5pm on Friday 17th August until after the General Elections in 2019’’.

Haruna further stated that the just concluded Ekiti governorship election was a huge success.

INEC in it’s press statement however, expressed displeasure on the increasing occurrence of buying of votes during election and maintained that it is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to stem the tide.
