The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo state has received 1,719 applications for replacement of lost or defaced Permanent Voter Cards(PVCs) in the last 60 days.

Mr Surajudeen Junaid, the acting Secretary of INEC in the state, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Junaid also stated that 2,339 registered voters approached the commission for transfer of PVCs from their former locations to the current ones.

He said a total of 43,963 new voters, comprising of 23,829 males and 20,134 females, had registered since the commencement of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

Junaid implored eligible Nigerians who had attained 18 years since the 2015 general elections to visit INEC office in their respective local governments to register.

NAN recalls that Mr Adedeji Soyebi, a National Electoral Commissioner, had on April 27 flagged-off the exercise at Ibadan South-East Local Government INEC Office.

Soyebi, however, implored Nigerians qualified for the exercise to register where they could vote.

He attributed the high number of uncollected voter cards to people registering where they were not sure of voting.(NAN)
