Senior Economic Advisor, Africa Economic Policy Development Initiative, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili has said that for Nigeria to succeed, the country needs inclusive elites that will develop inclusive policies.
Ezekwesili while speaking during Wema Bank’s 70th anniversary commemorative lecture on the theme: ‘Why Nations Succeed’ said “If you vote extractive elite to run your polity, they will be comfortable with extractive policies and institutions but if you vote elites that are inclusive they will develop inclusive policies.”
“The key point is how to get our leaders to build inclusive institutions. Institutions can’t get created simply because you pass laws.”
She also added that colonialism and multi-ethnicity are not excuses for failure in the country.
