In shocking U-turn, Chidinma Ojukwu denies killing Super TV CEO

Ojukwu and Ataga

Chidinma Ojukwu, the 21-year-old University of Lagos (UNILAG) student that initially confessed to killing Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga, has reversed course.

Ojukwu, who was paraded by the Lagos State Police Command in June, had confessed to killing Ataga by stabbing him.

She said at the time that she did so in self-defence because Ataga forcefully had sex with her and wanted to do so again.

Ojukwu, who recently spoke with Crime Fighters, said that she confessed to killing Ataga due to pressure.

The 300-level student said she found Ataga in a pool of his own blood after she returned from where she had gone to get food and drugs for both of them.

She added that she left the Lekki apartment where she lodged with Ataga without informing anyone because she was afraid of being arrested by the police.

Ojukwu also denied that she connived with anyone to kill her ex-lover.

“I didn’t involve anybody. I don’t know who must have come into the apartment. Definitely, somebody did that but I don’t know who that person is. I don’t know what happened when I left the room to buy food. Because of what I did after by not alerting the police and also withdrawing money from his account, I feel guilty for what happened but I did not kill him.

“I believe someone knew where we were and waited till I left before they entered. Due to pressure and insistence of the security operatives that nobody entered the room apart from the two, I resolved that since no one believed me, let me just take the blame,” she said.

She stated that nobody has influenced her to change her story as alleged in some quarters, insisting that she has not had any contact with her family members since she was arrested.

Ojukwu said she withdrew money from Ataga’s account because he promised to give her some money before his death.

“I just withdrew the money because he had already promised me, it’s not like I had anything to do with his death. I don’t have anything to do with his death,” she said.
