A select group of Northern governors are presently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where they have been meeting the leadership of the Islamic Development Bank in Jedda.
The 3-day meeting began on Sunday, which is a working day in the Kingdom.
The Islamic Development Bank is an international financial institution involved in equity capital, financing productive projects for the economic and social development of 56 countries who are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
It supports Muslim communities including those in none-member countries, through special intervention funds set aside by the bank for international cooperation. It was established 41 years ago.
The meeting is geared towards seeking the bank’s help in tackling the challenges facing the North.
In the delegation is Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, who is leading it; Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura; Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai; Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar; and, Kano State Governor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.
The meeting, which is expected to come to an end on February 2, will be led on behalf of the bank by its president, Ahmed Ali.
