Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has denied reports of his alleged kidnapping, clarifying that he voluntarily traveled to Abuja to report security concerns in Rivers State.
Nwaeke’s statement comes amid widespread speculations following his resignation and public accusations against Governor Sim Fubara. After his explosive revelations, Nwaeke’s wife claimed he had gone missing, suggesting he might have been abducted and forced to make his allegations.
In response, a video surfaced on Saturday morning showing Nwaeke at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. In the clip, he denied being kidnapped, explaining that he traveled to the Federal Capital Territory to personally report critical issues affecting Rivers State to the relevant security agencies.
“My name is George Nwaeke, and I’m currently at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. I left Port Harcourt this morning to meet with security agencies and report certain incidents in Rivers State that have deeply concerned me,” he said.
The former Head of Service explained that his decision to resign on Monday was due to troubling developments in the state. He dismissed claims of abduction and addressed the video of his wife declaring him missing.
“After the press interview I granted, I saw a trending video of my wife, where she was fed lies and made to say I was kidnapped,” Nwaeke lamented. “I want to state clearly that I am safe and lodging at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The misinformation she spread was based on a script handed to her.”
He also clarified that his wife is not privy to matters concerning his office, emphasizing that they only discuss domestic and social issues at home.
“I am still under oath as a public officer, and my wife is unaware of the internal workings of my office. My visit to Abuja is strictly for security-related reasons, and tomorrow, I plan to meet with the relevant agencies to report myself and explain the situation.”
Nwaeke added that Abuja, being home to the headquarters of key security agencies, was the safest location to disclose his concerns.
This development follows growing tensions in Rivers State after Nwaeke’s resignation and allegations against Governor Fubara.
