Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has announced plans to focus exclusively on music and filmmaking in 2025.
Speaking in an interview with Pulse, the multi-talented entertainer revealed that comedy was never his initial career choice, describing his foray into the field as a “fluke.”
“I’m going to take music more seriously in 2025. I want to create EPs because there are some artists I want to work with,” he said.
Basketmouth disclosed that filmmaking has always been his top priority, even over comedy. He noted, “Movies are my first choice. It has always been like that, it’s just that I haven’t made the movie yet.”
Reflecting on his journey, the comedian shared that he initially pursued a career in music, with rap as his focus, but switched paths when things didn’t go as planned. “I have always been funny since primary school, but music was just a talent I felt I could use as a plaything. Rap was my thing, but after a while, I realised it wasn’t going the way I wanted. Then I tried comedy—it was even by fluke. I was like, ‘This one is working. It must be the one.’”
Despite facing a turbulent start in comedy, Basketmouth eventually found his footing, and his career soared. However, he is now set to explore his passion for music and movies fully.
