Pastor Izuchukwu Anoloba, 35, a pastor arrested for conniving with others to kidnap a Catholic priest, Fr Fidelis Ekemgba, said he has brought disgrace to Christendom and his family.
Anoloba said this Thursday when the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, paraded the Lagos-based pastor and other suspects.
The commissioner said that the victim is the parish priest at St. Peters Catholic Parish in Umunohu Amakaohia in the Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of the state.
He said Anoloba and his alleged accomplices double-crossed the victim before whisking him to an undisclosed location.
Hussaini further told journalists that the suspects held Fr Ekemgba for over seven days and collected N5million as ransom.
He said that Anoloba was apprehended in Lagos following intelligence gathering by men of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Imo police command.
Hussaini, who commended the diligence of his men, vowed to ensure that Imo becomes too hot for criminal elements to operate.
Speaking to newsmen, Anoloba said he got N1.5 million from the ransom paid for the priest.
“I am a pastor with Apostolic Church of Christ in Lagos. I got N1.5 million from the kidnap of the priest. I never knew I would be arrested. I regret my actions because I am now a disgrace to the body of Christ and my family,” the suspect said.
