While Mohamed Salah scored the goal, Alisson Becker was the hero of the night as Liverpool secured passage into the second round of the Champions League courtesy of a 1-0 win against Napoli
The Brazilian was responsible for a string of saves as he kept the deadly trio of Lorenzon Insigne, Dries Mertens and Callejon out all night as Napoli failed to score an equalizer.
His manager, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his £65m rated keeper
“The goalie made the save of the season.
“I have no clue how he made that save … Thank God we have him.
“If I’d known how good he was, I’d have paid double.
“I think nobody expected a save in that situation. It’s a goal, no?”
Things got really nervy in the game as a goal for Napoli would have meant that Liverpool would have needed to win by a clear margin of two goals to qualify.
“After 65 minutes, it was really wild. Counter, counter, counter.
“The save Alisson made I have no words. It was life-saving tonight.

“It wasn’t just one save – he had a lot of things to do and did it so coolly and calmly. Still he did it, incredible, unbelievable, never saw anything like it.”
Klopp wasn’t the only one showering the keeper with accolades as defender Virgil Van Dijk also hailed the shot stopper
“You don’t think too much because it happens in a quick second,” the centre-back told reporters.
“[It was a] fantastic save, very important for all of us and fantastic keeper [Alisson].”
The Dutch defender also added that there was still work to be done
“We didn’t achieve anything. We didn’t achieve anything. We won the game, we’re through to the next round and that’s just the next step for us,” he said.
“We want to achieve big things this season, like every year I think, and we’re on a good way.”
