I’ll be running for president in 2023 – Deji Adeyanju

2 Min Read

Mr. Deji Adeyanju, the Convener of Concerned Nigerians, a civil rights group, says he will be running for president in 2023.

He disclosed this in a tweet to his 95,000 Twitter followers at 12.11 a.m. today, April 1.

The activist said his campaign slogan would be “Revolution of Ideas”.

However, Adeyanju did not disclose the political party under which he would be contesting.

Recall that since the return to civilian rule in 1999, only two political parties – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) – have produced the president.

While the PDP produced the president in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, the APC took over in 2015 and retained the position in 2019.

“I will be running for President in 2023. Our campaign slogan will be: REVOLUTION OF IDEAS,” he wrote.

However, it could not be immediately determined if his announcement was an April Fool’s prank.

According to Wikipedia, April Fool’s Day is an annual custom on April 1 consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters often expose their actions by shouting “April fools” at the recipient. Mass media can be involved in these pranks, which may be revealed as such the following day.

Adeyanju describes himself as a “prisoner of conscience”, who is “anti-government” but “pro-people”.
