‘I’ll be Chelsea coach this week’: Jose Mourinho

2 Min Read

The charismatic Portuguese took charge of Real Madrid for the final time on Saturday after a three-year spell in charge and will fly to London on Monday to finalize the deal.

“I cannot speak as manager of Chelsea because I am not. I am going to London and between Monday and the end of the week I will be coach of Chelsea,”
he told Spanish television programme Punto Pelota in an interview released on Monday.

“I expect to be the next coach of Chelsea. I would like to be it because I was happy in London and I feel that the people love me there.

“Life is beautiful and short and in life you have to look for what you think is best for you.”

The 50-year-old enjoyed a successful time in charge of Chelsea between 2004 and 2007 as he ended the club’s 50-year wait for a league title by winning back-to-back Premier League crowns in 2005 and 2006.

However, Mourinho failed to deliver Russian owner Roman Abramovich the Champions League that he most coveted and after semi-final exits to Liverpool in 2005 and 2007, they parted ways after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Rosenborg in September 2007.

Mourinho won the UEFA Champions League Competition with Portuguese club Porto in the 2003–2004 season and with Italian club Internazionale in the 2009–2010 season.

Mourinho’s name was met with a chorus of whistles when it was read out before kick-off at this final appearance as coach of Real Madrid on Saturday, but he did receive support from a small group of the club’s ultra fanbase who chanted his name throughout.
